CTLGroup and PCA Staff, It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the sudden and untimely death of Gene Russell (Russ) Hall, Senior Technical Specialist and Safety Coordinator, Structural Evaluation Group. Russ died of a heart attack last evening, February 9, in Northbrook, Ill., after playing racketball, something he did almost every Thursday night for over 20 years. Born February 11, 1953, he would have been 53 years old tomorrow.
†Russ started employment with PCA on February 5, 1979, as Lab Technician in the Fire Research Section. Before joining PCA, Russ worked for four years at Underwriters Laboratories as a technician in the fire research department. Russ attended Harper College, studying fire science and emergency medical services. He was also a volunteer squadman and emergency medical technician for the Chicago Fire Department.
Russ has always been involved in the safety concerns of the CTLGroup staff and facilities. In addition to his technician responsibilities, he was formally named Safety Coordinator in 1999. Russ was certified and served as safety trainer in a number of areas, including First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, Fork Lift Trucks, Ladder Safety, Rapelling, Confined Spaces, and Rope Rescue.
Russ is survived by his wife Laura and two sons, Glenn and Shane.
